Cuicocha comes from the Kichwa: Kuychi Kucha, which means "rainbow lagoon" or Tsuish Kucha, "lagoon of the Gods". It is a lagoon located 120 km north of Quito, at an altitude of 3,068 meters above sea level. It is a volcanic caldera, a volcanic crater, at the foot of the Cotacachi volcano. Inside the lagoon there are four lava domes that form two steep islands covered with forest and separated by a channel called "Canal de los Ensueños". 💡Curiosities: There is a trail that runs along the edge of the crater and allows you to learn about the local vegetation and the sacred and astronomical relationship of the lagoon with the native peoples. You can also navigate the lagoon in rented boats.
