Considered the new lung of the city of Guayaquil, it was declared a National Recreation Area in 2010. It has 57 ecological houses that accommodate 245 people who provide food and guidance services along the two ecological trails that lead to some of the attractions on the island, such as the Cocodrilera, which houses 11 female crocodiles and one male. Additionally, you can take a walk along the new Huaquillas Estuary trail. 💡Curiosities: In the year 2000, Santay Island was declared a wetland of international importance for its biodiversity and for being a habitat for species considered threatened, such as the whistling duck and the coastal crocodile, among others.
